This treatment is tailored specifically for young children and effectively corrects arch development, tooth crowding, spacing, protrusions and overall smile aesthetics. Dr. Black customizes trays to gradually expand a child’s jawline and to address current issues and prevent potential future complications.
HOW DOES INVISALIGN® FIRST WORK?
Invisalign® First gradually expands and shapes a child’s jawline through dental arch expansion. This process involves gently moving the teeth over time to widen the dental arch.
The dental arch expansion begins with a consultation to assess if Invisalign® First is the right treatment option for your child. If Dr. Black confirms that is the right option, she and our team will capture images, X-rays and digital impressions of your child’s smile. These data are sent to an Align lab, where a customized Invisalign® First device, called an aligner or tray, is crafted for your child.
After a few weeks, the custom aligner is ready for fitting. Your child will return to Appalachian Orthodontics of Lynchburg for Dr. Black to adjust the aligner to their smile. Over time, the aligners gradually shift your child’s teeth. Depending on your child’s requirements, they may require a full set of aligners or just one. Some teeth may require attachments to be placed on their surface to help in directing pressure from the retainer device to the right areas.
